Design & build of our own perfect space for streaming, recording and conferencing
We’ve long been advocates here at coodart of thinking about spaces differently, especially when it comes to video and communication.
We had a space in our own office and showroom that was certainly in need of a refresh. We needed a much better space for the new world of always on video calls, as well as being fantastic for streaming live feeds and recording pieces to camera.
We designed, built and created this brilliant new studio that we can use for everything from Teams and Zoom calls, to video recording or even live streaming to YouTube.
When we start to design a space the first thing we need to understand is what is the typical use case, space requirements and the kind of technology that will need to be integrated.
Video streaming has a number of key demands, lighting, acoustics and furniture layout are just some of them, before even looking at the bits of technology that will make this happen.
One of the key design elements was acoustics, with the slatted timber wall, and ceiling return, along with new acoustic ceiling tiles, the space was transformed acoustically. An additional rug on the floor also helped, along with the soft seating.
Lighting for video and video recording is massively important. Previously four very standard ceiling tile lights lit the space. Now we have 14 lights that are all individually controllable, both for brightness and colour temperature. The lighting has a number of key jobs to do.
Firstly it needs to ensure that the subjects are light well, and we have both low level and high level people facing lights, which ensures that faces are well lit. The ceiling lights above are both down and up-lights, which makes sure that there are very few shadows around people faces.
The lights at the rear lighting the wall ensure that we have some good contrast for the camera to focus and perform at it’s best. The element bulbs help to create warmth and atmosphere, and avoid harshness.
Exact display heights along with camera angles and camera lenses ensure that the central sofa position is perfectly framed, providing the best image composition for the recording for video wall.
Easy to use technology ensures that the actual process of a video call or recording is made easier, not more complex in this space, we love it.
